In the UK, bright low-income students are 50% less likely to apply, 33% less likely to get accepted when applying with the same grades and 50% more likely to drop out at RussellGroup universities. The SuttonTrust estimates that there are 3,000 ‘missing’ students from state schools who have the grades to get into the UK’s top ten universities, but who don’t go. It is these students - the ones that are beating the odds of the education system - that we help. By getting deserving students to the right place, we can ensure both greater diversity and more talent at top universities. Our solution is tailored for bright, low-income students from underrepresented backgrounds, who as a result are less likely to apply, less likely to receive an offer and less likely to graduate than their higher-income peers. These high-achieving students from non-traditional backgrounds are far less likely to apply to top universities than their more affluent peers – even when they receive the same results in their exams. While students in private schools often receive a high level of support and encouragement during the university application process, students from low-income backgrounds don't have access to this help and are further penalised consequently
