North Kensington Community Energy

NKCE is the first energy co-operative in the borough, which aims to bring community-owned renewable energy to Kensington and Chelsea. Our projects have three simple steps: 1) People invest money to purchase solar panels. 2) We install solar panels on community buildings. The panels generate clean electricity which we sell at a discount, reducing carbon emissions and saving each building money. 3) The money raised from selling the electricity gives a financial return to our investors and creates a community fund which is used to support projects in the local area. We’ve just installed 138 kW of solar panels on the Westway sports centre, which will save 28 tonnes of CO2 a year and raise £35,000 for local causes over their lifetime. We’re now inviting everyone to invest in these solar panels, which will be owned by the community. The opportunity to invest in the Westway project will go live in October 2020. We are looking to raise a total of £107,000 and we need help with our fundraising campaign, which will take place only online for the first time!
