Liberate UK plans to transform the criminal justice sector by bring together leaders, influencers and people who have live experience of the Uk criminal justice system. Our objective is to reduce reoffending and prison population by opening the doors of opportunities. Right now there are over 12000 people in Uk prisons in Pretoria detention. The majority are children and young people. Research has shown that 2/3 of cases that reach crown are acquitted because of lack of evidence/they were innocent in the first place yet they have spent time in detention which affects their physical and mental well being. This is an injustice in itself. Ive set up a petition to make pre trial detention a last resort and to use this period to provide defendants with the support they need to serve themselves and their community.
