We are delighted to have been invited to participate in the Nexters programme, an initiative established by the Big Society Network with the backing of the Cabinet Office to identify, support and develop social entrepreneurs with ventures that encourage people to engage in civil society and have the potential to scale.

Pimp My Cause has been chosen on the basis of a rapid growth and expansion of impact in under 6 months from launch.

While we are doing our best to build a resilient system, capable of supporting some great cause marketing, the real impact is achieved by our members.

We are aware of around 50 streams of marketing work in progress through Pimp My Cause at any one time, and the number is growing month by month. We feel incredibly inspired by the quality and ambition of our now 240+ member causes, and greatly impressed by the calibre and commitment of our 400 marketers.

25 social ventures have been included in the Nexters programme, and Pimp My Cause is in some great company.

One of the other ventures is Ecoinomy, led by John Grant, one of our expert interviewees from earlier in the year and his business partner Robert Colwell. Ecoinomy tracks employees’ energy/waste saving actions e.g. cutting travel, calculates how much is saved, allocates a share of these savings to community causes chosen by employees clubbing together in Facebook style groups. Deborah Meaden was recently announced as an investor and Chair.

Another of the 25 ventures is PlayMob, run by Jude Ower and Daniela Neumann. They have created a platform to raise funds for good causes through online gaming. They help charities get online by connecting them to existing games (through an in-game object) and get the charity out there to a massive, engaged audience. Their technology includes a real-world achievements and leader board, where in-game actions lead to real world good. Apparently, 3 billion hours per week are spent playing games – if 1p from every hour was raised to donate to a good cause, the impact would be transformational and the time would be very well spent.

We look forward to participating in the programme and collaborating with other Nexters. And we look forward to embracing the many new opportunities that 2012 has in store for us.
