Like a number of our causes Springboard for Children turned to Pimp My Cause because they needed to make sure the impacts of their work were expertly shared in their end of year impact statement. They needed their results to be recognized by schools, in order to gain new partnerships and continue to build their tutoring programme to reach more children in need of individual support with learning to read and write.

Mary Dawson, Chief Executive of Springboard explained, “I began working with Springboard for Children in July 2013. We are an educational charity and I arrived at the end of a school year. It was important that we share our results from the year with supporters and schools. We didn’t have any budget for design and marketing expertise, so I looked for pro bono support.”

Mary found Pimp My Cause through a Google search and contacted Simon Guest because his background and skills gave her confidence that his support would be a big boost for their project.

Once Simon got involved Mary knew that the project of creating their impact statement would be a success. Mary said, “Simon was extremely helpful in taking me through what we were trying to achieve. He created a copy brief to share with others and used his network to source support for editing (Rick) and design (Martin). Springboard drafted the content which was edited and then the design was created using our photos. Simon coordinated the work and brought the whole project together.”

Mary continued, “Simon also helped us develop a new, very clear brand proposition for the organisation which we are now using in all our communications.”

This brand proposition includes a clear definition of Springboard’s mission which further helps to frame the charity’s identity: “Springboard for Children believes every child has the right to a fair chance of future success. Springboard is a charity providing one-to-one support to improve reading and writing for children who are in danger of being left behind in the education system. We only work one-to-one with children and we always work in partnership with schools.”

Reading the impact statement created by the Springboard team with the help of Simon, Rick and Martin it is easy to appreciate all of the hard work that has gone into this project. The impact statement is clear, easy to read and understand, beautifully designed and very inspiring. Simple design, bright colours and engaging photos are used to draw attention to important information and inspiring case studies. It is a good mix of facts and figures and also shares a few of the individual stories of children’s progress as a result of the Springboard for Children tutoring programmes.

Since the impact statement was completed Simon has continued to support Springboard for Children as they build their brand and look to gain more external support.

In April/ May 2014 Springboard for Children hopes to have their five year strategy in place and would love to have additional support in building their marketing plan and translating their goals into an external engagement strategy.
