Working for Autism Unlocks Digital Potential News Post Image

Marketing member Kavita Doray has been working hard to transform the digital presence of Resources for Autism by building their social media strategy, supporting their digital engagement plans and creating a new crowd-funding micro-site. But what’s particularly interesting is that she feels she has benefitted from the collaboration as well as the cause she is supporting.

The latest digital marketing techniques are changing all the time and Kavita wanted to put herself in a situation where she could give back to a great cause while developing new insight and expertise as part of her own professional development. She has a practical background in marketing and advertising, but wanted live experience to compliment the new theoretical knowledge she had gained through her recently completed Chartered Institute of Marketing diploma.

While on a career break for maternity leave she found Pimp My Cause and approached Resources for Autism to offer her support with their social media marketing strategy.

Resources for Autism is a charity providing practical services for children and adults with autism and support for their families in Greater London and the West Midlands. They have a great team of play staff and volunteers offering a wide range of services to support the development of children and adults with autism.

Liza Dresner, Director of Resources for Autism, found Pimp My Cause when searching for marketing volunteers online: “We were aware that we were behind in using social networking for both fundraising and marketing and needed help.”

She was very pleased to connect with Kavita and they began a successful collaboration through which Kavita developed a social media strategy for the Resources for Autism team to implement, with the purpose being to reach new supporters and give useful information to their online community to reach their goals of attracting more volunteers and new funding sources.

Kavita helped them create a voice on Facebook to connect with their growing numbers of supporters and beneficiaries. The dynamic, regular posts which Kavita helped them design have already taken their Facebook “likes” from 39 to over 600 without the need for any media spend and they are also now active on Twitter and Youtube and making better use of their website to connect with their online audience.

Liza is grateful for the support they have had, “Kavita has been invaluable to us. She has been generous in sharing her skills and expertise and understanding of our limited time and limited knowledge. She has been enthusiastic about what we do and a pleasure to work with.”

Kavita is continuing to support their activity and is currently helping them plan a micro-site for crowd funding to engage with new funding sources and help convert some of their online support into donations.

“I was directed to Pimp My Cause at a time when I had been out of the work place for a while and due to personal circumstances could not enter into full-time employment,” Kavita shared. “Having always wanted to volunteer with charities, I was delighted to have an opportunity to develop and manage online marketing projects for Resources For Autism and Drama Workshouse who were without budgets and a bit unclear of how to move forward in the world of social media and digital.”

Stay tuned for a post about Kavita’s work with Drama Workhouse coming soon.
