Additional Information

The Next Chapter was started by a small group of wellbeing practitioners (and bookworms) as a new way of offering accessible counselling and promoting wellbeing in Edinburgh. We offer: a specialist mental health bookshop and reading for wellbeing service; rooms for rent to counsellors and other wellbeing practitioners; and a funding scheme to enable counsellors to provide low-cost counselling while maintaining a liveable income. We generate our own income for long-term sustainability, as well as receiving charity funding from the Moston Care Foundation to support the reduced-fee places. We admire anyone who asks for help with their mental health - we see this as a strong, positive, dignified choice. We don't see ourselves as rescuers – we are collaborators with tools to help people really understand themselves and make the changes they want to make. We aim to be approachable and to demystify mental health issues. The shop also acts as an invitation to drop in, ask questions and see what sorts of topics they can bring to us. We opened the door in January 2019, moved online for the lockdown, and are now running a mix of online and face-to-face services. We really want to reach more people with the new online shop and the reading for wellbeing service.

Please help us get people reading for wellbeing

Description

We want to reach more people with our specialist mental health bookshop and reading for wellbeing service. We believe reading can be a really powerful support - it's known to be good for mental health regardless of what you read, and the right book at the right time can be transformative. We're proud of our new online bookshop and we want it to be the place people go to find relevant books for their situation or issue. We can also offer personalised reading suggestions, and are one of only a handful of places offering 'bibliotherapy' consultations. We've got lovely artwork, a fully functioning WooCommerce-based shop, and great books. We just need more people to know about it. I feel like I'm shouting into the void on social media, and I don't think our SEO is good for the books but I don't understand what I'm doing with that. We also haven't used local press or advertising outwith social media, but would do if we knew how best to go about this. Can you help?
