Mission
Violence is the third leading cause of death of young people in Europe. Some of these deaths happen needlessly, because the people present don’t know what to do, they panic and do not call for appropriate help. We change this by giving young people who are likely to be present when someone is wounded skills and confidence in the immediate management of the stab or gunshot injury.

Additional Information
StreetDoctors educate and empower high risk young people with the skills to deliver life-saving first aid at the scene of a stabbing or collapse. An award winning initiative started by medical students in Liverpool in 2008 when we asked eleven young offenders if they had ever seen a stabbing – all of them had. We realised that by teaching this high risk group how to call 999 effectively and deliver simple first aid we can and do save lives. Teaching equips young people with practical skills, increases their confidence and aspirations and causes them to reassess their attitude towards violence. StreetDoctors is a group of over 120 volunteer medical students and doctors who teach young people in Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, London and Sheffield. We have taught over 1600 young people life saving skills and know of three cases where young people have delivered first aid with positive outcomes.
