Additional Information

Arthur Rank Hospice offers specialist palliative care to patients over the age of 18.  We work in partnership with the NHS to offer vital hospice services throughout much of Cambridgeshire.  Together we support over 1,000 patients each year, as well as their family and friends - helping them to deal with the challenges presented by cancer and other life limiting illness, to enable our patients to live well and their families to live on.   The Charity is committed with raising over £1.3million this year for patient focused services, and is solely responsible for funding Day Therapy and Hospice at Home.  What is Day Therapy? Day Hospice professionals work closely with patients to provide physical and emotional support, help with symptom and pain control and aim to alleviate any anxiety and fear. Day Therapy is available over a 12 week period, on a programme designed for each individual patient and includes complementary therapies, arts and diversional care, working alongside specialist professional care.    What is Hospice at Home? This service provides specialist palliative care for patients at the end of their life, enabling them to remain at home if that is their wish. Our nurses also offer vital support to families as they face the emotional and practical challenges of caring for a loved one. Currently supports 20-25 patients per month, and does not receive any funding from other Charities or partners.  The Charity works hard to fund many services, with the main focus being to support patients as they approach the last years and weeks of life, and to ensure their families and friends have access to the support they may need.

RUN FOR LOVE, RUN FOR MAYA !

Description

Namaste dear friends,As you can see in our profile, the name of our organization is Maya Universe Academy, the first free private school in Nepal. One of our volunteers is going to do a race partnering with us, and i honestly hope you can help us advertise it properly . I leave you with his letter, don`t hesitate to contact me for further information . Dear Sir/Madam,My name is Sean Maley, I am a 27 year old engineer and I live in Aberdeen.  On April 10th, I will run the length of Britain in 17 days to raise funds to start Nepal's first free private school in the country's poorest region. I am writing to you to ask whether a story on this unique school and my struggle to support it can be published. I have further information and photos to supplement what is written below. The race I will be doing is JOGLE 2015. It is an intense multi-day race where competitors run an average of 55miles a day for 17 days. It is one of the hardest races in Britain. The school I am running for is Maya Universe Academy. Maya Universe Academy is a social enterprise which has created a way to educate the world's poorest children free of cost. Four years ago, it's Nepalese founder embraced his community in rural Nepal and developed an educational model which utilizes the combined knowledge and strengths of the community to sustain the school. For two days a month, the student's parents volunteer for the school building vital infrastructure, directing agricultural projects, and creating handicrafts to be sold internationally. Through such activities the school is funded and Nepal's most marginalized children are given a superb education. We have two schools running by this model and now the time has come to create a third. The community selected for the third school is a difficult one. It is a two day bus ride followed by a two day walk away from the nearest city. It has been labeled the poorest region in Nepal, there is a significantly low percentage of males there due to the exodus of Nepalese workers to the middle east and more students fail school exams on that remote hill than pass. There may seem little for the remaining community to offer but what they do have is an overwhelming desire to support our school. This region's name is Bajura.I will be running for this community on April 10th. I will be running to raise funds for the land needed to start the school, I will be running to raise funds for the school's registration papers and in doing so I will cover the main investments needed to bring Nepal's first free private school to Bajura.I am an oil and gas engineer in North Scotland who likes running and who one day took a sabbatical to enjoy life while he could but I somehow found Maya Universe Academy on the internet and without too much thought came to volunteer for them. When I came there was a buzz for a new school in a region called Bajura. Community contacts were being made, land had been scouted and everything was in place but the financial investment to actually start. I figured that I couldn't make bamboo classrooms or raise goats like the community there but I liked long distance running, was pretty good at it so maybe I could invest in the new community's education through this activity. A few months later and the training is going well so I think the buzz and readiness for the new school which I experienced when there can actually transform into something great.Yours Faithfully,Sean Maley
