Mission

Full Circle is a social enterprise based in South Wales, with a mission to support the potential of children and young people, and address issues affecting youth well-being. The mission specifically of the #KeepingItReal conference and campaign is to challenge young people to aspire beyond the common messages in celebrity and social culture. We plan for the campaign specifically to encourage young people to not follow the crowd, but instead create their own sense of identity, challenging stereotypes and limited aspirations.

Additional Information

The #KeepingItReal conference will be held in Newport, South Wales on October 19th. The conference is for schools, youth/education professionals and teen girls and aims to explore issues affecting girls relating to the theme of “Keeping It Real”. The aim of the conference is to explore some of the issues young women face, such as body image and identity worries, bullying and peer pressure, gender stereotyping and more, and to raise the aspirations of girls. There will be professional development workshops for staff, workshops for girls, and role model ‘speed dating’ where girls and adults can interact with inspirational role models from sport, business, and other sectors. From the conference a campaign of the same name, #KeepingItReal, will be launched targeted towards high school age boys and girls, with the key messages of being real, not giving in to peer pressure, staying true to who you are, etc. The aim of the campaign is two-fold: To change the attitudes of young people to be more inclusive of others, and accepting of themselves, so they can aspire to something more To encourage young people to start their own mini #KeepingItReal campaigns in their schools. The campaign will be largely digitally focused, using social media, with supporting work in schools.
