Category

Poverty Alleviation

Additional Information

Thousands of people who have been granted refugee status in the UK have been forced to leave behind loved ones when they fled. After the long process of seeking asylum many families situations have changed and children and spouses can be left in danger, povety and homeless. Some children who have been cared for by elderly relatives are left alone.  We work to reunite refugee families under the UK family reunion legislation. This means that dependent children and partners can join a refugee in the UK allowing the family to rebuild their lives in safety.  Our work is primarily fundraising to provide grants for travel and other expenses for the family of our clients to come to the UK. For many families this is the fresh start that is needed to begin the path to rehabilitation following persecution.

Description

We support those families that have children that have been affected by the prenatal effects of anti-epileptic medication. We have identified that we do not have a clue as to how to advertise about us.  We are a small group that falls under the criteria a rare disease organisation.  The children affected have complex disabilities, whose mother (sometimes fathers too) are disabled, often these are single parent families as there are often family break downs due to stress. We have found that many aspects of this carries stigma (epileptic, bi-polar even migrainne and neuralgia,  Worst of all by our existence we show that there are inherent dangers in some medicines We did use to be a charity that supports our children, but a recent review has made us alter this to support the family.  We recognise that both the children and their mothers (sometimes fathers) are not only disabled, but also carers.

Branding

Description

OACS support those families who have a child/ren effected by the anti-epileptic medication taken by a mother during pregnancy.   we are one of a number of organisations in this field, but one of the few that offers genuine support.  We do not understand branding appropriately in order to give ourselves an edge. We want to be seen as a proactive organisation that offers support and information to those that need it.  We also wish to show that we willing to push forward developing new information, research etc in order to achieve necessary support.   We need a stratagy to help us to communicate our aims and objectives. Our aim is to be a low cost organisation that provides high quality support. Any help is much appreiciated

business development for an evolving charity

Description

OACS is an organisation that provides support for those families that have children affected by the medication the mother took during pregnancy for epilepsy, bi-polar, migranines etc. OACS need a sound business stratagy, but frankly, as with many small charities, this is not an area of our expetise.  At the moment we are more or less reacting to what is happening around us rather than having a clearly defined stratagy.  Although we are a charity that has been up and running for 15 years, there has been no real development within the organistion.  It is due to the disillusionment that our members have felt that we are new board of trustees that want to really push ahead in order to meet the needs of our memership  and provide the support that is deserved. We have tried to only focus on the quality of what we do, however we are now recognising that this is not appropriate for the short term, there are no bridging stratagies in place for what we are today and what we hope that we will become. As an organisation we want to put into place what our families both need and deserve,We need help

customer insight -our members needs

Description

OACS have a new board of trusties, the organisation has been left to flounder for many years and we recognise the  need to strengthen the foundations of our organisaition and really do need to stip OACS right back to its foundations.  We are a patient led organisation so insight from our membership is essential, in order that we can provide a greater understanding of the needs of our membership.  We are hoping that such action will help us to engage our members more effectively resulting in the ability to provide quality support and informaton. OACs supports those families whose children have been effected by anti-epileptic medication during pregnancy.  Many members feel disillusioned by OACS of the past.  Also due to the nature of the health needs of our membership we are finding it difficult to engage the families  we need help so that we can more effectively support the families, and provide them with the support that they need and deserve.

Strategic Marketing

Description

OACS is a charity that supports those families whereby a member has been prenatally effected by anti-epileptic medication.  These are families that have mothers with conditions that carry a stigma (epilepsy, bi-polar, deprssion, migraines etc).  Whose children, by their existence, highlight that there are inherent dangers in exposure to certain medicines (we advocate information)  These are famiies whereby the mother (who has a disability) is caring for a child with a disability, who is caring for the disabled mother.  Many families do not have partners as the stress from circumstances can cause many marriages to break down.  - a number of fathers are disabled also.We want to promote ourselves as an organisation that is 'user friendly' provides quality support, that is affordable, to both our membership and professionals. We have not a clue as to how to approach this, we need a strong strategy when it comes to marketing as it badly affects oru ability to fundraise and to be heard.
