Mission

Young people are citizens, too. We are tired of the cliché about young peoples’ voices being heard; we want to see action from our public servants. We are coming out of the “conflict” and we will influence the future for the benefit of all of us.Some of the best work we have done has been in partnership with other organisations and people who share our values and ambitions – locally and internationally. We are an outward looking organisation and encourage our Crew members to be reflective, creative and help lead us all. It’s their project – together we make it happen.

Additional Information

WIMPS (Where Is My Public Servant?); it’s a political project, it’s a media project, it’s a youth project. First and foremost WIMPS is a youth project that trains young people to use media, to understand the realities of politics and to engage with politicians to build real change in Northern Ireland. We campaign, we interview, we document in video, photos and text. Our website is incredibly sophisticated. The political database tracks contact details for elected representatives in local councils, Northern Ireland Assembly, Westminster and Europe against postcodes. People can email their politicians from the website and those emails are tracked by us to they get answered. The website also features interviews and reports that Crew around Northern Ireland have produced along with news and information for young people. You can start a conversation in The Loop, build that into a report then even a campaign where you can gather support and lobby politicians. And we are expanding. From the current 7 Crew we are about to add 7 more in September and a further 7 by the end of the year. The plan is to have at least 30 Crew – one in each Northern Ireland council area and 5 in Belfast.
