Mission

Fighting Fit Football are a community football club who promote exercise for people with Parkinson’s disease (PD) irrespective of their age, gender or ability. Exercise is recognised as one of the best ways to manage the symptoms of PD and our community provides a safe, enjoyable and supportive way to do this. We offer both 5 / 7 a-side football as well as walking football and are for fortunate to train at Watford FC’s training ground nr St Albans. Our mission is to encourage as many people with Parkinson’s to join our community, enjoy the benefits of exercise and tackle mental health issues caused by isolation, apathy and depression associated with the condition.

Additional Information

I was diagnosed with PD aged 45 (which is relatively young but not uncommon) and am determined to help as many people with PD as possible. We currently have approx 20 players registered with us (age range from 30s to 60s) and are keen to increase this number via promotion, awareness and events. We are also keen to challenge perceptions but at the same time increase awareness of PD generally and help those with PD and their families in the process.

Fighting Fit Football awareness and promotion

Description

We’re looking for help to support us to promote and expand, and increase awareness of, our community Parkinson’s football team through social media and via other promotional means. We have seen first hand the enormous benefits that our communal exercise brings to our players, both physically and emotionally, and so our goal is to help as many people with Parkinson’s disease (PD) as possible. We try to target people with (PD) who live in the Herts, Beds, Bucks and north London areas as well increase awareness generally in the wider public. We also would like to increase general awareness and challenge other people’s perceptions of PD (for the good of people with PD). We already have a social media presence but need to improve and expand this as well as target other areas to achieve our goals. Content creation ideas as well as some content creation (photos, videos and design) would be most welcome. Thanks for reading Nick
