Marketing Help for Non-Mainstream Charity

Description

We are a UK Charity that works in partnership with the UK government to provide practical support to families at a time when they are experiencing some of the most traumatic events in their lives. We believe the support we give to victims of serious crime and families of missing people and homicide victims is crucial but raising support and awareness is difficult because our work is not as mainstream as many other organisations. We would truly value the advice of anyone in the marketing/PR field who could take a fresh look at our organisation and help us to build a public profile and awareness, especially through our social media platforms.

Funding Campaign Development

Description

As well as trying to raise awareness and public appeal for our organisation, we are looking to develop an effective fundraising campaign to help our beneficiaries. We are currently looking to build this around a discretionary relief fund which would be used in cases of emergency or to support families who do not have the financial capacity to meet the costs involved when they or a member of their family becomes a victim of crime or misfortune overseas. For example, when a family member is murdered overseas, the costs can run into hudreds of thousands of pounds. Body repatriation, lawyers fees, translations, travel and accomodation for legal processes which can often take years to come to any conclusion are just some of examples of the costs involved. All at a time which is full of grief and trauma, exacerbated by the distance, isolation and barriers presented when it takes place in a foreign country. We also get many requests for help when children are abandoned overseas and need to travel home, when victims of serious crime become stuck in a foreign country with no way of getting home or even getting to a safe place until they can travel. These are just a few examples of the multitude of scenarios we deal with.We are currently in a position where we do not have the funds to simply dip into to help and our only option has been individual appeals which rarely raise enough money to help, and certainly not within the time frame it is needed. Having a fund which we can use to assist people at these traumatic times would make an immeasurable difference to those who use our services...somewhere in the region of 3,000 families a year.We have a wonderfully dedicated celebrity patron who is willing to help back and promote a campaign via various media channels - we just need a great campaign to launch! Whilst this particular idea is the one we have identified as the most marketable, we are always open to ideas for a campaign which may be more effective for raising funds.
