Poverty Alleviation
MAIN OBJECTIVE To facilitate the local communities in transformation of their livelihoods through capacity building and utilization of available local resources and innovations. CURRENT PROGRAMS 1. Education program We work to use a number of programs and resources to ensure that all the children we work with have both access to education and other basic needs. 2. Project Dignity Objective: To improve the learning standards of vulnerable girls and keep them in school throughout the year through provision of Sanitary towels and underpants to girl-child. Specific objectives. i. To provide accurate information on menstruation and how to manage it. i. To improve performance retention rate and self-esteem of girls in school. ii. To equip the girls with life skills and HIV prevention skills. iii. Support the girls with basic items iv. Support the girls with school fees to ensure they go pursue their education 3. Economic Empowerment We give communities the tools to be able to support themselves economically. Our objectives under this scheme; To enable guardians of vulnerable children to provide for the basic needs of the children in their care, without having to depend on hand-outs. To help parents regain the self-esteem they have lost through poverty and their inability to meet their children’s basic needs, giving them a legitimate income to support themselves and their dependents 4. Livelihood and Family Support Program Livelihood Support works with community groups and schools. We provide trainings on village banking to individuals and groups; we educate them on life skills, how to live responsibly, and how they can begin to help other people in similar positions and also support and educate them on health related issues and link them too with medical institutions for treatment . 5. Training and extension a. We work with schools and communities’ in good practices of sustainable agriculture. b. Through establishment of school gardens; c. GEEP KENYA runs this program that targets children in school and communities. we encourage environment conservation through waste management and recycling through establishment of urban gardens 6. Outreach programs This gives all community members the opportunity to get involved in community service on a quarterly basis. They include fun days, clean up exercises, tree planting, charity walks and support of the elderly etc. 7. Settlement Program Most disadvantaged families that are living in poverty and abandoned or neglected elderly live in houses that are in poor conditions and thus making them disposed to various kinds of diseases. Due to this, we help to improve the elderly and families living in deprived state with housing conditions through constructing them semi-permanent or permanent houses.
