To support teachers and parents to develop and manage the rearing of farm animals within school grounds, and to afford students of all ages and abilities the opportunity to care, learn by doing, and develop transferable skills.
Education and Skills
There are currently about 140 school farms across the UK, from primary schools through to sixth form Academies and special schools. The charity Social Farms & Gardens supports the network but doesn't have any spare resources to develop the website or find sponsorship for events/conferences and training. Teachers running the farms have been stretched to their limits, especially due to covid, and either have no time or ability to market what they do, especially nationally. We need promotion to help the established farms resist pressure on school resources to make cuts and encourage greater use of their facilities and activities, and to encourage more schools to start rearing farm animals and give thousands more students the enormous benefits a school farm offers.
