"The world changes when networks of relationships form among people who share a common cause and vision of what is possible. This is good news for those of us intent on creating a positive future. Rather than worry about critical mass, our work is to foster critical connections. Through these relationships, we will develop the new knowledge, practices, courage and commitment that lead to broad-based change." Margaret J. Wheatley Vision A healthy and peaceful world, where we care for each other, the earth and future generations, share resources wisely and continue to heal and regenerate communities and ecosystems. Mission To empower people to design thriving communities across Britain, and contribute to permaculture worldwide. Aims Make permaculture accessible to all Accelerate learning about permaculture Grow permaculture networks Share and develop permaculture practice Work with others to tackle key challenges To build a smart, effective, socially responsible and sustainable organisation History The Permaculture Association started in 1983 after the third permaculture design course had been held. By 1986 it was a registered charity and a small number of meetings, events and publications were produced. Members numbered in the low hundreds and the Association was the centre of communication and networking. Almost 40 years on we have grown into a capable organisation that sits as an important node within a flourishing local to global network of organisations, groups and individuals. We are a respected organisation that seeks primarily to grow the network. Our key achievements include: - the development of the LAND network of demonstration sites, an initiative that has been taken up by other national groups around the world hosting many events including the International Permaculture Conference & Convergence in 2015 -growing our Diploma system into the largest in the world - partnering with numerous organisations to deliver collaborative projects and initiatives - supporting many member groups to become well established entities in their own right. Our focus over the next 3 years is centred around how we can support our members to have impact, rather than mainly focussing on delivering national or international projects at the national level which have their own impacts. With around 1500 members, we have a wealth of knowledge, experience and practical application within our membership. They bring permaculture to life and represent the broad holistic nature of the opportunity for change.
Environment
The very nature of permaculture means that it doesn't fit in one category, it provides a holistic approach to making permenant changes and solutions embedded in our systems. We are looking for support with refreshing the brand an applying this to our new website, which is currently in development.
