Mission

We are people with and without learning disabilities, with a mission to build a more inclusive world. We are a life-sharing movement, seeking to make known the gifts of people with learning disabilities. We share four key elements: • service • community • spirituality • outreach. We help each other live full and empowered lives, enriched with belonging, kindness, creativity, fun and joy. We seek to grow by building mutual relationships across our diversity and differences, and to work together for a more human society.

Additional Information

L’Arche supports around 300 adults with learning disabilities in England, Scotland and Wales, through a mix of residential and home support and activity programmes. We create Communities where people withand without learning disabilities live and work alongside each other. Together and as individuals, we actively participate in our neighbourhoods, in faith and campaign groups, in places of work, learning and fun, in our towns, cities and nations. People with learning disabilities are the core members of our Communities. Each one has a personal support plan, developed by listening to their dreams and aspirations, choices and goals, and tailored to their individual needs and level of independence. There are 11 L’Arche Communities including L'Arche London based in West Norwood. Each is made up of people with and without disabilities sharing life. We received statutory funding from Local Authorities but we need to fundraise the difference it costs us to deliver the kind of fulfilling and fulfilled lives to which we believe people with learning disabilities are entitled.
