Mission

We propose to launch a new peer-led charitable organisation to represent donor conceived people, donors and others affected by donor conception practises in the UK. Our aim is to champion, empower and amplify the D|C UK community to, 1. Enable the best possible outcomes for donor conceived people 2. Allow all donor conceived people to explore their origins with dignity 3. Create a space for a community to explore the range of meaning that reproductive and genetic connections can have in peoples lives The shape and structure of this organisation will centre around three main pillars of support education and advocacy: SUPPORT As a community we support each other really well, but sign posting needs improving so that all donor conceived people, donors and and others intergenerational affected can find the help, support and resources they need easily. EDUCATION It is not OK to speak about the donor conceived experience without including the donor conceived voice. The voice of the D|C UK Community also needs to be amplified and more high quality resources need to be created to support all those inter-generationally affected by donor conception practises in the UK. ADVOCACY There is a lot of injustice in some historical and current donor conception practises. There is a passion within our community to create lasting change in this area.

Additional Information

We are have undertaken a consultation to determine the future direction of us all as a Donor Conceived Person (DCP) UK community. It is felt that there is some disconnect around what the Donor Conceived Register (DCR) is and who we are as a community and believe there is a need to establish an official organisation with a proper legal structure that is DCP-led and supports, educates and advocates for DCP and those affected by Donor Conception practises here in the UK. The landscape at the moment is that we have an awesome Facebook group and website that has grown around the DCR but it's possibly time for an evolution.. The Donor Conceived Register is a DNA register that exists for those born via donor conception prior to the 1991 law change. If your donor donated after 1st April 1991 you would use a different register; the Donor Sibling Link (DSL) and can apply to HFEA for some non-identifying information. Both our website submissions page and Facebook group welcomes and supports DCP born from any era as long as they are 18, we also welcome historic donors. From Autumn 2023 this will also include the OTR (Open The Register) cohort of DCP who are affected by the 2005 law change and can apply for the name and last known address of their donor once they turn 18. It is our belief that we are better together as a community voice and have more in common than we have differences when it comes to DC experience however we still want this new organisation to be able to properly support the mental health of each DCP in relation to the era they were born in and be able to successfully communicate those nuances.
