Mission

The FirstLight Trust works from the bottom up. We are a grass-roots, community based charity which assists the ‘hard to reach’ veterans who have fallen through the net and may have ended up on the streets; who don’t know where to turn, where to go or what to do. Our aim is to give physical, emotional and psychological aid however that works: it might be accessing housing, helping deal with depression and/or post-traumatic stress disorder, providing vocational courses or simply a place to drop in for a brew and a chat. Our aim is to support veterans back into the community and a better life. We also support Ex-Emergency Service personnel.

Additional Information

We are a national charity for veterans and have set up our first 'hub' in Scarborough. We have formed partnerships with most local services and charities to deliver help to the many veterans who are either on the street or suffering from mental illnesses, poverty, substance abuse etc. We are in the process of creating occupational therapy support on a local farm where the veterans can learn skills and can start to reintegrate back into the community. We currently have over 30 veterans who we have helped/are helping, and we know of around 300 in the immediate vicinity who require assistance. As we only registered in October 2012, we have achieved a huge amount on very little. We now need help with the fundraising!
