Mission
Manchester Veg People is a new and unique idea to revolutionise the food supply chain. We're a multi-stakeholder co-op of local organic veg growers and local food businesses working together to help improve the way we source and buy our food.Manchester Veg People's mission is to create a fairer and more sustainable food supply chain by connecting buyers and growers through the co-op, and by promoting local and sustainable produce.Both the growers and the restaurants and caterers who buy the produce are part of the co-op. The aim is to help improve communication and co-operation along the food supply chain by connecting buyers directly to growers, enabling them to better co-ordinate supply and demand. This in turn helps to eliminate waste and reduce risk for the growers.We aim to support growers to make a living through farming by ensuring that they are paid a fair price for their produce that is based on what it has actually cost to produce.We aim to support local businesses by creating a vibrant market for local produce and by expanding the range of exciting local produce available to local food businesses.We aim to increase the amount of sustainably farmed fruit and veg consumed locally by opening up a new and exciting market for growers, and by supporting new growers to set up or convert to organic.
