Sickle Cell and Young Stroke Survivors (SCYSS) is a registered charity set up in June 2005 to support children, young people and their families affected by Sickle Cell disease and Stroke in children. Sickle cell anaemia is one of the most common inherited blood anaemia’s; the disease primarily affects mainly African-Caribbean’s, Asians and parts of the Mediterranean. Sickle cell is a chronic illness that is treatable yet not curable, thus needs management for long periods, and therefore, the burden of care are placed on the families that have children living with the condition. Our mission is to support children and young people who have sickle cell and have suffered from childhood strokes in a holistic way.
