Founded in 1988, Friends of Africa International is a U.S.-based 501(c)3 nonprofit with NGO status in Kenya. Headquartered in Aspen, Colorado, Friends of Africa has three chapters in Aspen, Scottsdale and Nairobi. Friends of Africa International initiates projects and supports affiliates and causes related to wildlife conservation, environmental protection, cultural preservation, poverty alleviation, health and education in the continent of Africa. We are currently expanding our organization's capacity to reach patrons with a new publication, Friends of Africa Magazine. After expenses, 100% of the magazine's advertising proceeds directly fund the organization's projects and affiliates. Friends of Africa International is currently involved in two self-initiated projects: Pokot Project - Started in 2010 to bring education, healthcare and sustainable infrastructure to an impoverished sect of the Pokot tribe living near Ng'aina in the western Pokot District in Kenya. FOAI built the first school in the area now occupied by more than 100 students. The organization is currently raising funds to build a medical clinic to serve the region and install related infrastructure including clean water sources and renewable power supply. Kuba Kingdom Project - Initiated in 2012 to create sustainable development opportunity for Bakuba people living in the Kuba Kingdom located at the south central region of the D.R.Congo. The project endeavors to improve education, healthcare and enterprise, while at the same time, protecting the world's second largest rainforest from destruction by outside forces. Friends of Africa also supports affiliates, community-based projects and trusts including Save the Elephants, Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Mount Kenya Trust, Massai Orphan Education Fund and Maasai Community Conservation Fund.
