Additional Information
Established in 1997 as a pilot project through the Moray Voluntary Service Organisation, ReBOOT is now a fully sustainable Charity and Social Enterprise based in Forres, north eastScotland. They finance their operations through services offered to the public and businesses across the north east, with no income drawn from grant funding. They currently have eight paid staff, 3 trainees and 40+ volunteers on the books, all supporting the overarching objectives of the Charity by protecting the environment and working with the local community.
Volunteers attend the ReBOOT operations for many diverse reasons, for some it’s about giving something back to the local community and for others it’s about gaining new skills. ReBOOT’s ‘hands on’ practical approach offers the volunteers the chance to increase their practical knowledge, enhance their soft skills, social networking, mentoring and career development.
In 2004 ReBOOT moved away from its status as pilot project to become a Scottish Charity, and since then has handled over 940 tonnes of computer waste, which is the equivalent of 63 double-decker buses. With an instilled philosophy of reuse and community inclusion, to date ReBOOT has supplied many local groups and individuals with donated computer systems, whilst moving over 103,000 hardware items through the workshops in Forres.
