Mission

ABOUT MOVEMENT:Youth employment is approaching a critical juncture. Today in the UK, over 1 million 16-24 year-olds are unemployed. Never has there been such a significant proportion of the nation’s young people without meaningful work, under-used, under-valued, bored, disaffected. Never before have so many of these young unemployed been so skilled or so highly educated. Never before have they been so able to mobilise. And never before have they been so Dangerous. The aim of A Dangerous Figure is to unite all young unemployed people in the UK into a single figure, a sculpture that represents their combined hopes, fears, frustrations and latent potential. The result of this fusion of ideas and appearances of unemployed youth will be a travelling exhibition starting in SOMERSET HOUSE in London, and touring the UK in Summer 2013. This platform provides the UK young unemployed the opportunity to anonymously submit their information, vital statistics and, a photograph of their face, in order that it can be combined into A Dangerous Figure. The platform also provides the general public with the opportunity to ask A Dangerous Figure questions and interact with those who they may not normally have contact with. This two-way participation forms the Dangerous Figure’s background, work situation, life satisfaction and appearance. We want to empower the jobless generation in creating theyr own work or being connected to the right people to guide them

Additional Information

A group of Artists have decided that the problem of youth unemployment has gone too far, with fewer and fewer people able to keep a stable carrer. This is a problem which will see a generation of lost talent, we want people to know that they aren't alone in unemployment. We are holding a 6 week long exhibition in Somerset House from 15th July to show the individual and colletive struggle to find work in one of the richest countries in the world. We have covered the walls in rejected CVs, We have faces of people who have used our facebook app to tell us theyr feelings of theyr position.  We are planning a political question time with representitives from governing parties to be able to answer questions from youth, parents, cultural icons and future leaders. With support form organisations such as Intern Aware, Project Phoenix and Student Union, we want to stop Intern abuse, and develop partnerships to be able to create groups that can give jobs.
