Hi there! In January I'm going to be racing 7,500 miles to raise awareness of oceanic plastic waste. I'm a novice sailor but have been training since November 2012 and wanted to do something different - so I'm taking on the challenge of a lifetime and also hoping to raise awareness about the need to reduce the amount of plastic we use. Part of my route will take me through the Pacific Ocean, home to 3 large garbage patches of floating plastic waste that is getting into our food chain. I'm going to challenge people to cut their plastic consumption for the 53 days of my trip. They can leave a pledge on my website saying what they will do, and/or donate, likely to Sea Changers, a UK charity I've found where 100% of donations go towards a carefully selected UK-based project.
