Nearly 150 years old, The Floating Hospital provides primary medical, dental and mental healthcare to New York City's most under-servered and vunerable populations. (Yes, for most of those years we were on a ship but had to move totally landside due to the tragic events of September 11th.) Most of our clientele are homeless families, many made homeless by domestic violence. We're the city's oldest pediatric charity and now, we are the largest provider of primatry medical care to families living in New York City's homeless shelters and domestic violence safe houses. We provide the best of care, regardless of a family's insurance status or ability to pay. Since access to care is a huge barrier for many of our families (who can be geographically, socially and economically isolated), we operate a complex transportation system, picking up our patients and bringing them back home once they have been treated.
