Mission

Our mission is to move the legal pro bono sector into the world of secondary specialisation - where commercial lawyers learn to practice social welfare law. The people who need pro bono legal assistance are not the sort of people who have commercial legal problems. However, it is the commercial lawyers and their firms who have the greatest level of resource to dedicate to pro bono. We believe that the only way to address the increasing need is to harness the talents and resources of these commercial lawyers. We start by convincing them and the legal profession more generally that secondary specialisation is a good thing.

LawWorks enables lawyers to volunteer their professional skills to assist individuals and community groups with serious legal issues for which they cannot afford to pay for legal help. In some cases our volunteers’ assistance can mean the difference between a person keeping or losing their home, their livelihood or their children.
