Mission

Free Tibet is an international campaigning NGO, working for self-determination for the people of Tibet, an end to China's occupation and for the human rights of Tibetans to be respected. We break China's blockade on news from Tibet by giving the world's media information provided by Tibetans themselves at enormous risk. We lobby political leaders, hold companies seeking to gain from China's occupation to account and - most importantly of all - build and mobilise worldwide support for the Tibetan cause and Tibetans' peaceful resistance to oppression.

Additional Information

Tibet has been occupied by China for nearly 65 years. Its people are subject to violent and intense repression. For Tibetans, simply aving an image of the Tibetan flag on a phone can lead to torture, imprisonment and worse. Protest is suppressed with state violence, artists and writers are jailed for expressing their Tibetan identity, entire communities face punishment for the acts of individuals and the world's media and human rights organisations are denied access. Tibetans have become a minority in many parts of Tibet due to Han Chinese immigration - their language is under threat and they cannot compete for jobs with better qualified Chinese immigrants. Tibet's environment and natural resources are being ruthlessly exploited by Chinese companies and the Chinese government. Despite all this, Tibetan resistance is constant, undaunted and peaceful.
