http://www.theprojectyp.org.ukThe Project supports young people experiencing issues with their emotional and mental health. by increasing their self awareness and confidence, as well as building emotional resilience, to enable them to make the most of life and its opportunities. We also work to promote a wider understanding and awareness of mental illness, to reduce stigma and discrimination. We aim to achieve our mission through: Peer support groups for 13-24s affected by emotional and mental health issues. The Project’s focus is on early intervention and prevention, and offers a friendly, non-clinical space for young people to come and meet others with similar issues, talk, share, give and receive support, so reducing their isolation in the community. We also offer a programme of activities aimed to give young people tools and techniques to better manage their mental health. A monthly support group for the parents and carers of young people affected by mental health issues, providing much–needed information, support and advice. We also run Mental Health Awareness Workshops in schools and the community, to promote a wider understanding of mental illness and reduce the fear and stigma which surrounds it.

The Project, which was launched in September 2013, offers support to young people from across East Devon, South Somerset and West Dorset. We employ 3 part-time staff, who work alongside a team of volunteers, who range in age from teenagers through to retirees. Everyone involved in The Project has either a lived experience of mental illness, or has worked professionally with children and young people. We are reliant on donations, grants and fundraising to continue this service, supporting vulnerable young people in our community.
