Mission

We work to support the people who respond to natural disasters and conflict situations, and those who provide their time and expertise to reduce poverty and increase opportunity through long-term development projects. Our members are organisations large (eg British Red Cross, Save the Children, Oxfam) and small, based in 45 different countries - and we are the only specialist non-profit in the world offering the services we do. In the commercial world we would be a Human Resources consultancy. We offer support in areas such as  learning and development, recruitment practices, security and wellbeing, reward and motivation, management and leadership. Much of the success in emergency and development work derives from the experience and humanitarian spirit of the volunteers and paid staff who work for our members: People In Aid's work contributes to ensuring they are that much more better trained, managed, supported, cared for - and therefore more effective in the important work they do.

Additional Information

People In Aid is a global network with a small staff, a large membership and a big mandate. The organisation started after the Rwanda crisis when it was clear that staff working with refugees were not well managed or supported by their organisations. We have helped considerable improvements since then thanks to the 'People In Aid Code of Good Practice', which is the sector's quality standard for HR and people management. We are the go-to-guys for good practice for the sector. We run conferences and networking events; we work in collaboration with individual NGOs (non-governmental organisations), consortia, private sector partners, academic institutions and others; we produce papers and case studies; we put people in touch with each other; we certify organisations against the quality standard.
