Mission

Every year thousands of animals are euthanized due to overcrowded kennels and catteries. We advocate spaying as the mean to reduce the number of feral and stray cats wandering the streets instead of euthanasia. For that purpose, we develop two main projects: CER (Capture, Spay and Return: we capture and spay stray cats before returning them to their former territory) and CEI (Capture, Sterilize and Integrate: we find a temporary or permanent home for stray cats that cannot cope with life on the streets).

Additional Information

Hi! Onde há Gato não há Rato (Where there's a cat, there's no mouse) is a NGO located in Almada, near Lisbon (Portugal). We have been working since March 2013 with feral and stray cats in this region. Besides spaying feral cats, we try to find new homes for stray cats. Since 2013 we have found new homes for almost 200 cats, and spayed near 500. We also treat injured and sick cats which are brought to us. We do not have any professional staff working with us, and rely only on the help of volunteers and donations. Since Portugal is going trough a major economic crisis, it is more and more dificult to find funding for our cause. At the same time the number of abandoned cats is increasing as families struggle to find employment and many people leave the country, leaving their animals behind.
