Mission

We aim to promote the conservation and protection of special marine areas and endangered species, especially sea turtles, under our project’s flagship programme, Watamu Turtle Watch. We also encourage the sustainable use and management of marine resources for future generations and Kenya’s marine heritage, through empowerment, education and campaigning.

Additional Information

We are a not for profit organisation based in Watamu, Kenya and we are committed to the protection of the Kenyan marine environment through community development, practical conservation, education, research and campaigning. Our flagship programme, Watamu Turtle Watch, protects nesting turtles on Watamu beach, rescues turtles caught accidently by fishermen, and rehabilitates and releases injured or sick sea turtles. We have conducted over 11,500 turtle releases, treated over 300 patients and protected over 50,000 hatchlings through this programme. We also have a strong community outreach programme where we are able to empower the local community with alternative income generating projects. Our education programme enables us to reach 2,000 children each year and we work closely with 30 local schools to encourage future conservation and protection of the marine environment.
