The Engineering Development Trust mission is to help talented young people achieve their full potential, in particular, through careers in engineering, science and technologyAll activities delivered by the EDT are all aimed at encouraging more young people to take up science, engineering, technology and maths. This will result in a public benefit in several ways:- to the UK economy through the input to society of the new generation of scientists and engineers;- to the students who obtain experiences and skills development, thereby enabling them to make more informed choices at key moments in their education in relation to potential careers and study subjects offering real long-term sustainable opportunity and value creation;- by aiming to widen access to key professions (including diversity) thereby enabling both fairer access and a wider pool for the economy; and- to the parents and teachers who benefit from seeing their children and students undertaking activities and experiences which complement the learning and advice obtained at home and school.

The Engineering Development Trust (EDT) is an education charity. In existance since 1984 we offer tasters, projects and placements to inspire young people to reach their full potential through careers in Science Technology Engineering and Maths. We deliver genuine work-related learning programmes targeting 11-21 year olds, bringing companies and universities together with schools and students to work on real projects. The aim is to give these young people a better insight into the science and engineering related business world, offering them the opportunity to make more informed choices relating to subjects and courses that will enable them to follow a science and engineering career. The activities vary in length from one day to one year and each is designed to offer a wide learning experience. Key life skills of teamwork, problem solving, communication and presentation skills are significantly developed and coupled with project management, report writing and other specialised skills result in greater understanding of, and preparation for, the world of work.
