Local residents Mark and Andy launched The Carshalton Patch in October 2012, as a weekly Saturday market stall outside The Corner Gallery on Beeches Avenue. The idea was to see whether there was demand for fresh, seasonal, locally-sourced fruit and vegetables in the Carshalton Beeches area, and the community quickly bought into the concept, enjoying quality produce from local growers including Sutton Community Farm located opposite Oaks Park, and free-range eggs from Frith Park Farm in Walton-on-the-Hill. The Carshalton Patch quickly outgrew its weekly stall, and in June 2013 we moved into permanent shop on Gordon Road, a few doors down from Carshalton Beeches station. We now employ 5 members of staff from the local community including 2 apprentices as we continue to expand. The shop has won already won several awards for its work with the local community, including the Gold Award in the 2013 Sutton Community Challenge, run by BioRegional and presented at the Carshalton Environmental Fair. Trading as an Ethical Accredited Company the Carshalton Patch prides itself on reducing waste to a minimum, by working with local businesses including The Sun pub in Carshalton to offer quality surplus produce for use in its menu. We also provide a popular bargain bin for produce nearing the end of its life, and even offer free rabbit food to anyone who would like it. During the summer months the shop also runs the “Produce For The Patch” initiative, encouraging local gardeners and allotment owners to bring in surplus produce to the shop, where it will be sold on their behalf in return for shop credit or a charitable donation. The Carshalton Patch focuses on providing seasonal produce when it’s at its best. You'll find tender, sweet forced rhubarb from the Yorkshire Triangle, tasty British asparagus, wonderful Jersey Royals, and juicy strawberries and raspberries on offer among many other lines.
