Our education work: We are committed to ensuring access to the arts for groups of individuals who would not normally be able to access such activities for social, economic or other reasons. The Blue Elephant Theatre (BET) is on the frontline of services to people of all ages and backgrounds in one of London’s most deprived boroughs. We are a 50-seat community engagement theatre uniquely placed in the middle of a housing estate in Camberwell. The strong community focus of our work is now expanding throughout the whole of Southwark.BET supports emerging artists and companies to produce an eclectic program of new work across the performing arts from physical and dance theatre to new writing and revamped classics. It has been a supportive and successful launch pad for many performance companies and artists. At the core of BET is a vibrant and acclaimed Education and Participation department, which offers high quality creative, learning and community provision. Young people growing up in this area of Southwark face many complex challenges. BET develops responsive and relevant projects that positively engage young people and support their needs. We provide FREE provision for children and young people from ages 7 to 21 years old and run a number of high quality creative projects led by skilled theatre practitioners and artists including:Young People’s Theatre -Youth Theatre providing free weekly participation for groups aged 7-21;Creative Minds - Bespoke arts projects delivered in 4 local primary schools;Speak Out -Interactive theatre performance (Forum Theatre) tours and workshops for 11-19 year olds;Free to Act -Performing arts project for 11-18 yr olds run on the Wyndham & Comber Estate.We also have a number of Bespoke projects happening across the borough with local community groups, youth centers and schools.
