Education and Skills
The aim of UWS is to provide an education to students in remote areas who have no access to a viable alternative. Since 2009 we have built 33 schools in Cambodia, Myanmar and Nepal and provided an education for 5,000 out-of-school children. We work only where we are wanted by the indigenous community and we plan are exit from the start. We require communities to commit to sending their pupils to the school, providing land for the school site and some of the labour needed for construction. To ensure the school is sustainable we pair our UWS communities with a specific Partner School who fundraise to build and maintain their UWS School. For the students at the UWS School the benefits are the opportunity to access an education, often for the first time in the history of their community. The basic education we provide means access to jobs outside their village, protection from child trafficking as well as an estimated 50% reduction in infant mortality, currently at 23% in Northern Cambodia. <!--?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /--> By 2018 we aim to build 150 schools across Cambodia, Myanmar and Nepal providing for the first time a meaningful education to 50,000 children.
