Mission

The aim of the Change Your Shoes campaign is to raise awareness about these facts, to open a societal and political debate, to lobby the brands and to call for legislature to address key issues allowing labour rights abuses to continue, such as a total lack of transparency. Additional Information

The principal aim of the campaign is to open discussion about leather processing in tanneries mainly in India, Indonesia and Bangladesh. As in the clothing industry, abuses of basic human rights are pervasive in the shoe production. The wages of workers seldom reach the lawful minimum set by the state of production and in most cases they are hardly high enough to guarantee the workers a dignified living standard. Child labour is common in the sweatshops. Shoe-making is a dangerous work, especially in the tanneries. The workers have to operate in conditions which do not meet minimal safety standards and are exposed to toxic chemicals such as Chrome III-salts, which also pollute the environment.
