Uk And Tanzania
http://www.readinternational.or.tzWe strive to achieve this by transforming unused spaces into libraries that provide an environment conducive to reading and self-study and improve access to education resources for students and providing textbooks and reading resources (Library Refurbishment Programme). To-date, we have distributed over 1.4 million books to 1000s of secondary school in Tanzania and have created 72 new libraries that are accessed by over 43,000 students.
Education and Skills
We seek to improve access for young people in Tanzania to educational resources and address the current pupil to textbook ratio of 10 to 1 (Shukuru Kawambwa, Minister of Education, 2013). As an organization our primary objective is to support students to become increasingly more independent and confident readers by promoting a culture of reading within secondary schools, supporting students to develop an appreciation of reading and develop the skills required to ‘read to learn’ as well as providing teachers with the resources to enhance the quality of instruction.
