This project aims to help fill the data gap, by getting data in the field directly from refugees in the Calais camp. This data will help policy-makers better understand the extent of the humanitarian catastrophe, and give influencers a powerful tool to convince others to find a long-term, sustainable response to the humanitarian crisis that respects the needs and rights of this most vulnerable group of people.
Poverty Alleviation
We are a group of young people setting out to support Syrian refugees in Calais! Europe is facing a humanitarian crisis and a long-term political solution has still not been found. Refugees have travelled long and treacherous journeys to escape the most dangerous situations, yet find themselves facing harsh conditions and no access to services at Europe’s borders and in its camps. While aid agencies and others have stepped in to provide some short term care in the absence of political action, a long term response to these difficulties seems a distant possibility. One of the main barriers to political action that we have identified is a lack of data on the extent of the humanitarian catastrophe we are facing.
