These 100 unique expressions and individual drops of inspiration will create a unified art collection, representing a strong wave of support for a humanitarian cause, bringing more awareness and ultimately more help to those who are suffering the current refugee crisis. We hope that this artistic collaboration, which brings together so many extraordinary personalities and talented individuals, will not only raise funds but contribute to inspiring a world in which collaboration replaces conflict, where individual expressions are celebrated and not condemned, and in which each human being is embraced and nurtured as a unique contribution to our collective experience and global society.
Disaster Relief
'Jeans for Refugees' is an artistic collaboration and fundraising project dedicated to helping refugees all around the world, with all proceeds going to the International Rescue Committee. One hundred celebrities are participating in the project by donating a pair of their jeans to be painted by Johny Dar. Each pair of jeans will be made into an individual art piece consisting of the painted jeans showcased in a glass box, and the 100 art pieces will be exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery in London, from the 25th - 31st July 2016. At the end of the exhibition each piece will be auctioned at a special fundraiser auction, and all proceeds raised will be donated to the International Rescue Committee, and the various IRC initiatives helping millions of refugees worldwide on a daily basis (rescue.org). Participants from the film, art, fashion and music industries are contributing their jeans to the project, including Sir Elton John, Woody Allen, Sharon Stone, Vivienne Westwood, Kate Moss, Marianne Faithfull, Linda Evangelista, Carla Bruni, Sofia Coppola, Jane Birkin, P!nk, Audrey Tatou, Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, Christina Ricci, Karlie Kloss, Julio Iglesias, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, Cat Stevens, Tom Waits, Bryan Adams, Melanie C, Lili Alen, Macy Gray, Peaches, Florence Welch, Elle McPherson, Candice Swanepoel, Alicia Vikander and others. Johny Dar will be painting the one hundred pairs of jeans in public in London as a live performance preceding the exhibition at the Saatchi gallery (25th-31st July). This artistic performance will be approximately 10 days (exact dates to be confirmed) during which time Johny will be in the performance space 24 hours a day until all 100 pairs of jeans are complete, exploring the endurance and determination needed by millions of refugees seeking to complete their journey and reach their destination of a new home and new beginning.
