Mission

Spark is the new name for our organisation, following the merger of the Voluntary Sector Support Service of SSVCA and Mendip Community Support in April 2016.Together, we have been providing practical support to the voluntary sector in Somerset for many years. Our aim is to inspire strong and sustainable communities through voluntary and community action. We provide information, advice, training and support to charities and community groups in South Somerset, Mendip and Sedgemoor and we represent the sector on strategic bodies, both at a District and County level.We also run the Volunteer Service across these three districts, inspiring people to get involved and make a difference in their communities.

We are a charity whose core function is to provide practical advice and support to charities and community groups across Somerset.Each year, we support hundreds of groups to start-up, develop and achieve sustainability through our programme of free advice, support and training. We also run the Volunteering Service, matching volunteers to causes that matter to them.Despite the obvious positive impact of our work, it can sometimes be a challenge to obtain funding, as what we do is 'behind the scenes'. However, groups and charities that we work with often tell us that they would struggle to survive if it were not for our organisation. And as the number of voluntary and community groups continues to grow in the current economic climate, we believe that there is greater need for our organisation than ever before.
