The Galop National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans Domestic Abuse Helpline, povides confidential and specialist telephone support for LGBT experiencing issues with domestic violence and abuse. The service is open for all members of the LGBT community, their family, friends and external support agencies. We operate daily from Monday to Friday, with two evening shifts and a Trans* specific service on Tuesday afternoon. This amounts to 2080 hours per year. The National Helpline is run by trained LGBT staff who support callers to talk through what is going on, and explore options and respond accordingly. This unique helpline is essential in delivering a service where LGBT people feel confident to disclose their issues of abuse without feeling anxiety about their sexuality or needing to justify they are a victim of abuse, which sadly is often misunderstood or not acknowledged at all in wider society (i.e a man doesn’t experience abuse, only women do).
