Mission

We are a charity based at Doncaster Sheffield Airport who look after XH558 – The Spirit of Great Britain. The Vulcan to the Sky Trust, a dedicated organization, ensures that XH558 remains an educational piece and a testament to the achievements of British engineering. The Trust's efforts focus on inspiring future generations about aviation and preserving the heritage of the Avro Vulcan. XH558 was the last remaining flying Vulcan Bomber in existence and is one of only three Vulcans that is still capable of ground running. This year marks the the tenth anniversary of the final flight of XH558, the last airworthy Avro Vulcan, an iconic symbol of British aviation history. During, 2015, XH558 made its final Display flights at air shows around the UK seen by millions of people, a poignant moment for aviation lovers. Over the weekend of 8th and 9th of October the final journey was a grand tour of the United Kingdom, allowing countless spectators to witness its majestic flight one last time. The final flight path included flypasts over iconic locations, airbases, and cities that had played a significant part in the aircraft's history. During these flight it was estimated some 20 million people saw the Aircraft On this significant milestone, enthusiasts, historians, and the general public are able to reflect upon the remarkable journey of this magnificent aircraft. XH558 continues to inspire future generations of engineers, pilots, and aviation enthusiasts. The efforts of the Vulcan to the Sky Trust ensure that the story of this remarkable aircraft is told, and its legacy endures. Educational programs, workshops, and interactive displays allow young people to learn about the history of the Vulcan, its technological advancements, and its role in maintaining global peace during the Cold War. As we commemorate the tenth anniversary of XH558’s final flight, it is important to look ahead to the future of aviation heritage. We are currently planning special events and products to help our supporters and the nation celebrate the achievement of the project to return her to flight and to help secure her future allowing us to educate future generations about her role in aviation, military and world history.
