Mission

We are putting together a conference in mid March 2017 that will help Headteachers to explore aspects of their school environments through a gender lens, giving them the skills and tools to understand what power they have to influence and effect change when it comes to gender equality. We have limited budget but want to get as wide a reach as possible and explore a range of interconnected themes where gender is relevant: Mental health, self esteem and gender; Participation, attainment and progression to the workforce: girls and boys; Sexualisation of girls and young boys and girls; STEM education; Power and privelege; Gender and faith; etc

I'm representing a consortium of UK based partners - Fearless Futures, The Great Initiative and Plan International UK - to develop our first conference on gender and education. All three organisations do amazing work across gender issues within schools, workplace and development settings. The conference will be led by grassroots organisations who's causes are described as follows: The GREAT Initiative is a gender equality charity based in London. Founded in 2010, we work with both men and women to tackle the root causes of inequality. Fearless Futures is the only organisation in the UK working with girls and young women with a direct focus on gender and leadership. "In providing support, encouragement and peer mentoring, Fearless Futures seeks to empower young women to become leaders in our society. Through an innovative leadership programme, the organisation not only offers a distinctive method of developing confidence and skills, but also empowers participants to develop a unique perspective on their broader role in advancing the case for women's equality in all parts of the world." Rushanari Ali MP Plan International UK is a children's charity. We strive to advance children's rights and equality for girls all over the world. We recognise the power and potential of every single child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination.
