Toast Ale is on a mission to prove that the alternative to food waste is delicious. Toast Ale (www.toastale.com) is an awesome, award winning beer brewed using fresh surplus bread that would otherwise go to waste. 44% of the bread produced in the UK is never consumed. There is the equivalent to one slice of bread in every bottle and our ambition is to directly save more than 100 tonnes of bread in our first 3 years. All profits go to our brilliant partner charity Feedback Global to support the fight against food waste, making Toast the best thing since… well, you know. We source the surplus fresh bread from industrial scale bakeries and sandwich manufacturers. For example, the crusts at each end of a loaf of bread are cut off (and often the next slice also due to any slight dipping or drying at end of a loaf) when making sandwiches. We collect those slices to brew them into beer whilst they’re still perfectly fresh. We of course abide by the strictest of food safety procedures and all bread collected is kept in sealed containers between manufacturer and brewery.
