Our mission… Having overcome a number of challenges and hurdles during the past 12 months, through passion, determination and an unerring drive to succeed, our mission is still the same now as it was when we started: ‘to use digital / technology to positively impact the lives of carers, is sustainable and creates an embedded change for the good of their health’.

Our story... FamilyCarersNet was borne out of providing respite and relaxation activities for family carers, in a flexible and personalised way that suited their needs. Through the experience of delivering this services we evidenced and experienced firsthand further needs of carers. These were continuous and common for all family carers and those who want to help them. A lack of information, support, awareness and understanding of what a caring role is, who is a family, what do family carers need to be aware of, how can help be provided and what are the needs of family carers for healthcare professionals to provide support. The most impactful and lasting words that ‘flicked a switch’ in our minds that something extra must be done are these from a family carer: “I feel like a prisoner in my own home. I’m isolated. I don’t see my neighbours. I have no time or energy to do anything or know who to speak to”. The inability of family carers to connect and engage with other people, due to their mental and emotional health and wellbeing, is a common thread. For us, this wasn’t and isn’t acceptable. We set our minds of how to respond to this need.
