Mission

The Uganda School Project tackles educational inequality by working closely with local communities and government partners to create sustainable solutions in some of the most hard-to-reach, marginalised communities in Uganda. Through our efforts, we are able to improve access to quality education, enhance foundational educational outcomes for students and address inequality.

Additional Information

In Uganda, ver 80% of children are unable to read and understand a short, age-appropriate text by age 10. In Namisindwa District, nearly 60% of Grade 6 learners - just one year before completing primary school - lack basic competency in literacy and numeracy. The statistics are worse for government primary schools, particularly in rural areas. By supporting development of quality government schools in under-resourced communities, we provide all children with access to education that empowers them to gain foundational skills and break the cycle of poverty. Through a holistic approach combining infrastructure development, in-service teacher training and targeted instruction, with a particular focus on women and girls, we create learning environments that inspire a meaningful education, social development and thriving communities. As children gain foundational education skills, they unlock opportunities for continuing their education, gaining key life skills and creating improved livelihood opportunities for themselves, their families and their wider communities.
