Mission

I feel we have a very exciting mission, not only directly helping the local community in a positive way but the results are clearly measurable and obvious, it's a great case study. There is the possibilty we may be able to create something that other clubs can repeat. Demographics have changed, how do we engage the multi-cultral community in a sport still seen as white middle class? We want to increase participation in rugby by men, women and children across the board.  We have no starting point, we have no agenda, only a desire to get more people playng rugby and using our club. We don't just give people sport, we are very focused on providing an enviroment of equality and acceptance. Where else does a ex-offender share a beer with a policeman, a QC and a scaffolder on a equal basis, the good this enviroment does can be amazing and we want more of the Croydon community to discover it. We also started a ladies team last year and it's been more succesful than we ever imagined, Ladies rugby is a real canvas for creativty and part of this project could be to support the already succeful ladies team build their profile. SCRFC has so many stories to tell, so much history and the journey from stuffy mens club of the 20th century, to a bench mark of what small grass roots clubs could be is amazing but we need someone to tell those stories.

Additional Information

Inner city Rugby Club looking to increase engagement across all sections of the local community SCRFC is an historic rugby club based in Croydon, South London. Our key aim as a club is to primarily increase engagement and the 'take up' of Rugby in it's various different forms. touch, 15s, 7s Women, Men, juniors and minis. We have used what little money we have to fund school outreach and have partnered with the RFU on their community projects. As a club we do what we can to build our profile and encourage people to join us  but it is not something we are proficient at. We are a grass roots club, funded by it's members, there are no paid staff and almost everything we do is on a volunteer basis. We are not a charity  but we just about cover costs ever year, what is left is put back into Rugby. We are working really hard, far beyond our remit and would like to investigate what help we might be offered.
