Half of children from the poorest backgrounds do not reach the expected standard in maths at the end of primary school. Half. These children go on to underachieve at GCSE, and are more likely to be unemployed as adults. Maths with Parents supports schools, particularly those in disadvantaged areas, in fostering positive and effective parental engagement. Our support starts with a workshop for the parents in each school which starts to change attitudes by showing that playing maths games with their children can be fun, easy and have an impact. Then, throughout the year, the parents receive videos in which primary school children explain the maths techniques they have been taught. Each video comes with related fun activities that parents can play together with their child.
